Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

NOTE: For better performance and results of this diagnostic procedure, usage of appropriate wiring diagram is recommended. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use an ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect SUZUKI scan tool or equivalent to a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTC is retrieved, perform engine system check. See TEST D: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK . After repair, retest system for normal operation.
  2. Start engine.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ECM 24-pin harness connector G04. See Figure and Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. If MIL remains OFF, substitute ECM with a known good unit and retest system for normal operation. If MIL turns ON, repair short to ground in Purple/Yellow wire between ECM and instrument cluster. After repair, retest system for normal operation.
