Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

NOTE: For better performance and results of this diagnostic procedure, usage of appropriate wiring diagram is recommended. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use an ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, perform TEST D: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS, then go to next step.
  2. If during DTC confirmation test procedure any DTC other than fuel system P0171 or P0172 was retrieved, perform appropriate diagnose test procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no other DTCs are retrieved, go to next step.
  3. Check intake system and exhaust system for leakage, If intake system and exhaust system are okay, go to next step. If intake system and exhaust system are faulty, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
  4. Check system fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE under FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. If fuel pressure is as specified, go to next step. If fuel pressure is not as specified, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
  5. Check fuel injectors. See FUEL INJECTORS under FUEL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If fuel injectors are okay, go to next step. If fuel injectors are faulty, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
  6. Check fuel level sensor referring to step  4 under DTC P0461: FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CIRCUIT - PERFORMANCE. If fuel level sensor is okay, go to next step. If fuel level sensor is faulty, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
  7. Check Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor referring to steps  2 and  3 under DTC P0101: MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR - PERFORMANCE. If MAF sensor is okay, go to next step. If MAF sensor is faulty, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
  8. Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor referring to steps  4 and  5 under DTC P0116: LOW COOLANT TEMPERATURE OR SPECIFIED VALUE. If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step. If ECT sensor is faulty, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
  9. Check HO2S-1 referring to step  2 and  3 under DTC P0131 OR DTC P0132. If HO2S-1 is okay, go to next step. If HO2S-1 is faulty, repair as necessary and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
