Cold (Fast) Idle: XL-7
NOTE:
Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and Fast Idle Air (FIA) valve is a single unit assembly and is not adjustable.
IAC/FIA valve is controlled by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). IAC/FIA valve supply by-pass air into intake to increase engine idle speed when engine is cold. Inspect fast idle speed as follow:
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect IAC/FIA valve harness connector. See Fig 1 . Ensure that engine coolant temperature is approximately 77°F.
- Start engine and allow it to idle. While engine coolant temperature increase, engine fast idle speed should gradually decrease.
- If engine fast idle speed decrease, IAC/FIA valve is operating properly. If engine fast idle speed wont decrease, IAC/FIA valve, air passage or coolant passage is faulty. Repair or replace as necessary. For IAC/FIA valve removal and installation, see IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article.
