Service Precautions
- On XC90 equipped with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Module include Roll Over Protection (ROP). The SRS control module must not be removed, moved to another position or worked on unless power supply is disconnected. If power supply is disconnected, air bags and seat belt tensioners may deploy. SRS module is located between the parking brake and gear selector lever in center console. NEVER install car accessories on or near SRS Module.
- C70 Convertible is equipped with a Roll Over Protection (ROP) system. The ROP roll-over bar is raised by a spring with a force sufficient to cause injury. It is important that no one is standing above the roll-over bar when it is deployed. The roll-over bar operating range is approximately 20" (50 cm), which is also the safety distance from the bar. No repairs are permitted on the roll-over bar cassette. If there is a fault in the roll-over bar, the whole cassette should be replaced.
- Air bag modules/pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners must never be taken apart, repaired or transferred to another vehicle.
- Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non deployed air bag or pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner. This could deploy the air bag or pyrotechnical seat belt tensioner.
- Never take a resistance reading across air bags or seat belt tensioners if a DTC is stored for too high or low igniter resistance. Special tools with the same resistance as the air bag or seat belt tensioner must be used for fault-tracing.
- When storing or transporting air bag modules/pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners, they should be handled in accordance with national statutory regulations.
- Battery must not be connected when the steering wheel air bag module connector is disconnected. If battery must be connected, install special tool (998-8695) to SRS steering wheel air bag module connector. This is to prevent vehicle SRS On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system setting a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If ignition switch is turned to ON position with air bag module connector disconnected, an open circuit DTC will be set. DTCs must be cleared.
- DO NOT turn steering wheel when contact reel is locked. The contact reel locking pin will break off.
- DO NOT open any SRS component.
- The inflatable curtain must never be unscrewed, repaired or moved to another vehicle. DO NOT remove, loosen or tighten any mounting screws.
- DO NOT fold or twist inflatable curtain during removal or installation. The inflatable curtain module must be handled with both hands, with one hand holding gas generator. The inflatable curtain module must be kept level. Avoid twisting or bending the inflatable curtain module as much as possible.
- Any SRS component must be returned if there is any visible damage.
- DO NOT position or install accessories or any other components in the area near SRS components. Failure to observe this instruction may cause SRS component to fail.
- The SRS system must always be worked on by a qualified technician.
- When removing a non deployed steering wheel module, module should be placed with metal side (rear) facing downwards somewhere where it will not be handled carelessly (in the luggage compartment for example).
- When the air bag is deployed powder is spread throughout the car. The chemical reaction that creates the gas can also produce certain by-products such as calcium chloride. When decontaminating a car with a deployed air bag wear gloves, protective goggles, overalls and a face mask. Exposure to the powder can cause the following problems:
- Eye Contact
Symptoms may include burning or grittiness. Flush immediately, using copious amounts of water for AT LEAST 15 minutes. See a doctor if the symptoms persist.
- Skin Contact
Symptoms may include a burning sensation. Wash thoroughly using a mild soap solution and water.
- Open Wounds
Wounds may be aggravated. Avoid exposure and carefully clean thoroughly.
