Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
NOTE:
For better performance and results of this diagnostic procedure, usage of appropriate wiring diagram is recommended. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE
in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
NOTE:
Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use an ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect SUZUKI scan tool or equivalent to a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTC is retrieved, perform engine system check. See TEST D: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK . After repair, retest system for normal operation.
- Start engine.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ECM 24-pin harness connector G04. See Figure and Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. If MIL remains OFF, substitute ECM with a known good unit and retest system for normal operation. If MIL turns ON, repair short to ground in Purple/Yellow wire between ECM and instrument cluster. After repair, retest system for normal operation.
