Air Bag Diagnostic System Check: Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki XL-7. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Air bag diagnostic system check should be the starting point of any air bag system diagnostics. Air bag diagnostic system check verifies proper AIR BAG warning light operation and presence of air bag Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  2. Refer to proper diagnostic procedure as directed by air bag diagnostic system Check. Air bag diagnostic system check will lead to correct procedure to diagnose any air bag system problem. By-passing these procedures may result in extended diagnostic time.
  3. Repeat air bag diagnostic system check after performing any repair or diagnostic procedures. Performing air bag diagnostic system check after all repair and diagnostic procedures will ensure repair is correct and no other conditions exist. When ignition switch is first turned to ON position, system voltage is applied from AIR BAG fuse to Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). SDM responds by flashing AIR BAG warning light 6 times while performing tests on air bag system.
NOTE: During diagnostic procedure, if scan tool indicates no communication with SDM, go to SDM CANNOT COMMUNICATE THROUGH SERIAL DATA CIRCUIT . If DTCs are being retrieved through AIR BAG warning light flashing method and AIR BAG warning light does not indicate a correct flashing pattern, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CANNOT INDICATE FLASHING PATTERN OF DTC .
