Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki XL-7. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure scan tool is functioning properly and correct cartridge for air bag system is used. Turn ignition off. Check scan tool connection to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool is connected properly, go to next step. If scan tool is not connected properly, reconnect properly.
  2. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with other control modules. If communication with other control modules is possible. go to next step. If communication with other modules is not possible, repair open, short to ground or power in common section of serial data circuit (Purple/Red wire).
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connector Q02, located under center of instrument panel near SDM. Check connector Q02 terminal No. 8 (Purple/Red wire) for proper connection. See Fig 1. Repair as necessary. Measure resistance of Purple/Red wire between SDM connector terminal No. 20 and connector Q02 terminal No. 8. See Figure. If zero ohms is present, substitute a known-good SDM and retest system. If infinite ohms is present, repair open or high resistance in Purple/Red wire. Reconnect all components. Clear DTCs. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTICS.
