Scrapped Vehicle
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Vehicles being scrapped may have undeployed air bag modules. Follow these procedures when scrapping a vehicle:
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Remove AIR BAG fuse from AIR BAG fuse box. See Figure. Disconnect driver-side air bag module connector. Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. See Figure.
- Using Deployment Harness (09932-75030), short the two deployment harness leads together by fully seating one banana plug into the other. Connect deployment harness connector to driver-side or passenger-side air bag module connector. Lock connector with lock lever. Route harness out of vehicle and stretch harness to its full length of 33 ft. (10 m). See Fig 1.NOTE: Air bag will deploy immediately when power source is connected. Deployment wires must remain shorted and not be connected to power source until air bag is to be deployed. Connecting deployment wires to power source should always be the final step in deployment procedure.
- Remove all loose objects from front seat and ensure no one is in vehicle. Completely cover windshield area and front door window openings with a drop cloth or blanket. Separate the two banana plugs on deployment harness.
- Connect harness to a 12-volt battery to deploy driver-side or passenger-side air bag module. Repeat procedure for remaining air bag module. DO NOT touch air bag module area for 10 minutes due to heat generated during deployment. Wear gloves and safety glasses before handling a deployed air bag module. Wash hands with soap and water afterward.
