Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure jumper wire is firmly connected to AIR BAG monitor connector terminal No. 1 and ground terminal No. 2. See Figure. If jumper wire is firmly connected, go to next step. If jumper wire is not firmly connected, reconnect properly and retest.
  2. Ensure ignition is off. Short AIR BAG diagnostic monitor connector terminal No. 1 directly to ground. Observe AIR BAR warning light when turning ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light flashes a DTC pattern, repair open or high resistance in Black wire between AIR BAG monitor connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash a DTC pattern, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect Purple wire for proper connection at SDM connector terminal No. 30 and AIR BAG monitor connector terminal No. 1. If connectors are okay, measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 30. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, substitute a known-good SDM and retest system. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, repair open or high resistance in Purple wire.
