Spark Knock/Detonation

- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II System Check.
- Perform Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) System Check.
- Check for engine running hot because of low coolant or other cooling system faults.
- Check for correct fuel octane rating.
- Check engine compression.
- Check TP sensor adjustment and operation.
- Check Knock Sensor (KS) and circuit (if equipped).
- Check for correct PROM or EEPROM.
- Check spark plugs for correct heat range.
- Check for incorrect basic engine parts such as camshaft, cylinder heads and pistons.
- Check ION sensing module operation.
- Check ignition timing.
- Check for low fuel pressure.
- Check EGR system operation.
- Check automatic Transmission Range (TR) switch circuit.
- Check for carbon build-up in cylinders.
- Check for correct fuel pressure.
- Check for rich or lean running conditions.
- Check for faulty Torque Converter Clutch (TCC).
- Check for faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.
- Check for restricted airflow to radiator.
