Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read and record FAILURE RECORDS data. Clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within FAILURE RECORDS data. If scan tool displays DTC P1546 RAN AND PASSED this ignition, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool does not display DTC P1546 RAN AND PASSED this ignition, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove A/C compressor clutch relay from underhood fuse/relay box. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and A/C compressor clutch relay socket cavities No. 2 and 5 (Brown wires). See Fig 1 . Voltage reading should be 12 volts. If voltage readings are as specified at both measurements, go to step 5 . If voltage readings are not as specified, go to next step.
- Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in Brown wires (ignition feed) between A/C compressor clutch relay and EB-7 A/C fuse (10-amp). Fuse is located in underhood fuse/relay box. See Fig 1 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Red 32-pin harness connector C-1. PCM is located under center console in front of shifter. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in Gray/Red wire (A/C compressor relay control) between PCM and A/C compressor relay. See Fig 1 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, install A/C relay and go to next step.
- Using a fused jumper wire, jumper between ground and PCM harness connector C-1 terminal B14 (Gray/Red wire). See Figure . Turn ignition on. If A/C compressor turns on, go to step 9 . If A/C compressor does not turn on, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in Brown/Yellow wire between A/C compressor clutch and A/C compressor relay. See Fig 1 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Replace A/C compressor clutch relay. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
