Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for ABS DTCs. If any ABS DTCs are set, go to step  6 . If no ABS DTCs are set, leave ignition on and go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, review FREEZE FRAME data and note parameters. If a misfire DTC is set, go to next step. If no misfire DTC is set, go to step  10 .
  4. If DTC P1380 is set, go to next step. If DTC P1380 is not set, go to step  8 .
  5. If any ABS DTCs is set, go to next step. If no ABS DTCs are set, go to step  9 .
  6. Repair ABS system as necessary. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. After repair, go to next step.
  7. If any other DTCs are set, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no other DTCs are set, no problem is indicated at this time.
  8. Repair condition causing misfire as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTCs. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . Select specified DTC function, enter DTC P1380. If scan tool indicates DTC P1380 RAN AND PASSED this ignition, testing is complete. After testing, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
