Diagnostic Procedure

- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Install scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check for ABS DTCs. If any ABS DTCs are set, go to step 6 . If no ABS DTCs are set, leave ignition on and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, review FREEZE FRAME data and note parameters. If a misfire DTC is set, go to next step. If no misfire DTC is set, go to step 10 .
- If DTC P1380 is set, go to next step. If DTC P1380 is not set, go to step 8 .
- If any ABS DTCs is set, go to next step. If no ABS DTCs are set, go to step 9 .
- Repair ABS system as necessary. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. After repair, go to next step.
- If any other DTCs are set, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no other DTCs are set, no problem is indicated at this time.
- Repair condition causing misfire as necessary. After repair, go to step 10 .
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTCs. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . Select specified DTC function, enter DTC P1380. If scan tool indicates DTC P1380 RAN AND PASSED this ignition, testing is complete. After testing, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
