Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- If scan tool, displays any other DTCs preform appropriate test before proceeding. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no other DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Check fuel level. Add fuel if tank is almost empty. If fuel was added, go to next step. If no additional fuel was required, go to step 5 .
- Start vehicle and bring engine to normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Increase engine speed to 1200 RPM. Using scan tool observe Bank 1 HO2S-1 voltage parameter. If voltage parameter toggles between 100-900 mV, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump relay. Fuel pump relay is located in underhood fuse/relay box. Crank engine to relieve fuel pressure. Install fuel pressure gauge. Reinstall fuel pump relay. Start engine, and allow it to idle. Disconnect vacuum line going to fuel pressure regulator and read pressure gauge. Fuel pressure should be between 41-47 psi (2.9-3.3 kg/cm2 ). If fuel pressure is as specified, go to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If fuel pressure is not as specified, go to next step.
- Check for restricted fuel lines or filter. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, enable fuel pump. Observe fuel pressure gauge while pinching off fuel return line, manipulate fuel line to increase fuel pressure to 41 psi (2.9 kg/cm2 ). DO NOT allow fuel pressure to exceed 47 psi (3.3 kg/cm2 ). If fuel pressure can be increased to specification, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If fuel pressure does not increase to specification, go to next step.
- Check for faulty fuel pump, restricted fuel pump strainer, incorrect fuel pump, incorrect fuel being used or hot fuel. If any problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
