Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. On scan tool, compare FUEL LEVEL parameter with actual fuel gauge reading. FUEL LEVEL parameter and actual fuel gauge reading should be equal. If readings are as specified, go to next step. If readings are not as specified, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition on. Record fuel gauge reading. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Red 32-pin harness connector C-1. PCM is located under center console in front of shifter. Turn ignition on. If vehicle fuel gauge reading changes, reconnect PCM harness connector and go to next step. If fuel gauge reading does not change, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel tank level sensor connector. Using fused jumper wire, jumper fuel level sensor harness connector terminal No. 4 (Orange/Blue wire) to ground. Turn ignition on. On scan tool, observe FUEL LEVEL parameter. If scan tool parameter and fuel gauge both indicate 0 percent (empty), go to next step. If scan tool and fuel gauge readings are not as specified, go to step 6 .
- Replace fuel tank level sensor. See FUEL SYSTEM under REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. After repair is completed, go to step 7 .
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTC information. Start engine and idle at normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . If scan tool indicates diagnostic DTC P0461 RAN AND PASSED, system is okay. If scan tool does not indicate system passed, repeat test starting in step 2 .
