Check for faulty connections or damaged harness, backed out terminals or misrouted wiring harnesses. Correct any abnormal engine noises. Any audible noise that causes a knocking type noise on engine block may be misinterpreted by knock sensor. Scan tool will display knock sensor value in counts, increasing with engine speed and decreasing when engine speed decreases. Check internal resistance of knock sensor to verify component or wiring problem in knock sensor circuit. Reviewing FAILURE RECORDS vehicle mileage since last failure may help determine how often condition that caused failure occurred, and may assist in diagnosing problem.
