Test Description

Powertrain OBD II System Check prompts technician to complete some basic checks and store the freeze frame data and failure records data on the scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the malfunction occurred. Information is than set on the scan tool for later reference. - 2
If conditions for the test as described above are met, DTC P0325 will set and MIL will illuminate. - 4
If engine has an internal knock or audible noise that causes a knocking type noise on engine block, knock sensor may be responding to the noise. - 6
Scan tool displays KS activity in counts, about 20-50 at idle. Counts should increase when engine speed is increased, and counts should decrease when engine speed is decreased. - 7
Any circuit that is suspected as causing complaint should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improperly mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to wiring harness. - 8
If KS module was previously replaced and DTC resets a malfunctioning PCM is indicated. - 9
Checking internal resistance of the KS verifies if KS or wiring to KS is okay.
