Test Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Trooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The numbers below refer to the step numbers in the diagnostic procedures.

  1. 2

When EVAP canister vent solenoid or EVAP canister purge solenoid electrical fault is present, purge system will not operate properly. Repairing fault will most likely correct condition which caused DTC P0440 to store.
  2. 3

This step checks fuel tank pressure at ambient pressure.
  3. 4

This step determines whether or not the EVAP system can be sealed sufficiently to be pressurized. If not, leak must be located and repaired before continuing testing.
  4. 5

This step verifies that fuel tank pressure accurately reacts to EVAP system pressure changes.
  5. 8

This step checks for a blocked EVAP canister purge solenoid. PCM commands EVAP canister purge solenoid "OFF" (open) and vent solenoid "ON" (closed) when scan tool output control function activated. Any pressure in system should be released through the EVAP canister purge solenoid within a few seconds after output test is activated.
  6. 9

This step ensures that sufficient source vacuum is present at EVAP canister purge solenoid.
