Initial SRS Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING:
Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Follow air bag service precautions to prevent accidental air bag deployment and personal injury. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
NOTE:
AIR BAG warning light will come on if battery voltage is low. Ensure battery is fully charged. When battery voltage is restored to normal, AIR BAG warning light will go out.
Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds and then goes off, SRS is functioning properly. If AIR BAG warning light does not function as described, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) by connecting scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC'S) table. If AIR BAG warning light is not functioning properly and there are no DTC's, diagnose AIR BAG warning light. See SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION SYMPTOMS table. If scan tool is not communicating properly, diagnose scan tool communication problem. See SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION SYMPTOMS table. When diagnosis and repairs are completed, use scan tool to erase DTC's.
