WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Disconnect negative cable at battery before checking and adjusting belt tension.
- Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If it is necessary to replace belt, refer to "COOLING FAN / GENERATOR BELT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION: ".
- Check belt for tension. Belt is in proper tension when it deflects within specification under thumb pressure (about 10 kg or 22 lb.).
Cooling fan belt tension (as deflection/10 kg (22 lbs))
"a": 9 - 11 mm (0.36 - 0.43 in.)
NOTE: When replacing belt with a new one, adjust belt tension to 7 - 9 mm (0.28 - 0.35 in.). - If belt is too tight or too loose, adjust it to proper tension by displacing generator position.
- Tighten generator adjusting bolt (1) and pivot bolt (2).
Tightening torque
Pivot bolt (a): 45 N.m (4.5 kg-m, 32.5 lb-ft)
- Connect negative cable at battery terminal.
