Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Using scan tool check for stored DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . If no DTCs are set, go to next step. If any DTCs are set, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  2. Start engine. Using scan tool recheck for stored DTCs with engine running. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . If no DTCs are set, go to next step. If any DTCs are set, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connectors. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If MIL remains illuminated, check for short to ground in Violet wire between ECM harness connector C21 terminal No. 17 and MIL bulb. See Figure . If MIL turns off, substitute a known good ECM, and retest.
