Removal & Installation (2.2L & 3.2L)

  1. Drain fuel tank. See FUEL PUMP FLOW TEST under FUEL SYSTEMS in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Disconnect negative battery cable. Loosen gas cap. Support fuel tank with an appropriate lifter.
  2. Disconnect EVAP fuel hose from EVAP canister. See Fig 1. Disconnect fuel feed and fuel return hose at couplings near fuel filter. Disconnect air breather and fuel filler hoses at filler neck. Remove 4 fuel tank retaining bolts. Lower fuel tank enough to disconnect harness connectors. Remove tank.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. After fuel tank is installed. Start engine and observe fuel tank and hoses for any leaks. Repair as necessary.
