Oil Pump Removal & Installation: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki XL-7 and 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  2. Drain engine oil.
  3. Drain coolant COOLANT DRAINING .
  4. Remove oil pan, oil pump strainer and timing chain cover. Refer to OIL PAN & OIL PUMP STRAINER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  and TIMING CHAIN COVER & FRONT OIL SEAL (Grand Vitara) or TIMING CHAIN COVER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (XL-7).
  5. Loosen oil pump chain guide bolts. Refer to OIL PUMP COMPONENTS  .
  6. Remove oil pump (1) from crankcase (2).
    CAUTION: Do not remove oil pump sprocket or bolt.
    Otherwise, oil pump sprocket and/or oil pump rotor shaft might be damaged.
