Oil Pump Removal & Installation: Removal

- Disconnect negative cable at battery.
- Drain engine oil.
- Drain coolant COOLANT DRAINING .
- Remove oil pan, oil pump strainer and timing chain cover. Refer to OIL PAN & OIL PUMP STRAINER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and TIMING CHAIN COVER & FRONT OIL SEAL (Grand Vitara) or TIMING CHAIN COVER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (XL-7).
- Loosen oil pump chain guide bolts. Refer to OIL PUMP COMPONENTS .
- Remove oil pump (1) from crankcase (2).CAUTION: Do not remove oil pump sprocket or bolt.
Otherwise, oil pump sprocket and/or oil pump rotor shaft might be damaged.
