Propeller Shaft Removal & Installation: Installation

Reverse removal procedure to install propeller shaft noting the following points.
- Clean and inspect sliding portion of propeller shaft end (where oil seal contacts) before installation and if even small dent or scratch exists, correct end clean it again.
Then apply grease inside splines of propeller shaft.
"B": Grease 99000-25010
- For vehicle equipped with center support, tighten center support mounting bolts to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Center support mounting bolts (a): 50 N.m (5.0 kg-m, 36.5 lb-ft)
- Install propeller shaft aligning match marks. Otherwise, vibration may occur during driving.
- Use the following specification to torque universal joint flange nuts. For rear propeller shaft flange bolt, apply thread lock cement to thread part of bolts if reused.NOTE: H25 engine model refers to Grand Vitara, H27 engine model refers to XL-7.
"A": Thread lock cement 99000-32110
Tightening torque
Front propeller shaft flange nuts (a): 50 N.m (5.0 kg-m, 36.5 lb-ft)
Rear propeller shaft flange nuts for H27 engine model (a): 60 N.m (6.0 kg-m, 43.5 lb-ft)
Rear propeller shaft flange nuts for H25 engine model (a): 50 N.m (5.0 kg-m, 36.5 lb-ft)
- For front propeller shaft installation, perform the following Steps A
and B
.
- Install stabilizer bar.
Tighten stabilizer bar mounting bracket bolts to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Stabilizer bar mounting bracket bolt (a): 23 N.m (2.3 kg-m, 17.0 lb-ft)
- Fill transfer oil referring to TRANSFER GEAR OIL INSPECTION & CHANGE (Lever-Shift Type) or TRANSFER GEAR OIL INSPECTION & CHANGE (Motor-Shift Type).
- Install stabilizer bar.
