Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below right side of steering wheel, accessible from driver's side. Start engine and check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate testing procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 35-pin harness connector E61. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure. Turn ignition on. If MIL illuminates, check for and repair short to ground in Purple/Yellow wire between ECM harness connector E61 and instrument cluster harness connector G11 terminal No. 2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If MIL does not illuminate, substitute a known good ECM, and retest system.
