Vehicle Speed Sensor: Esteem

NOTE: A malfunction in the VSS circuit may result in the setting of DTC P0500: VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) MALFUNCTION. If DTC is not set and VSS is still suspect, perform following inspection.

Remove VSS.
Check resistance between 2 terminals. Resistance between 2 terminals should read 300-450 Ohms at 20°C, 68°F. See Fig 1

Check gear for damage and rotation. Magnetic force should be felt when rotating gear.
