Driver Air Bag (Inflator) Module
WARNING: When handling an air bag (inflator) module, be sure to read "Precautions on Handling and Storage of Air Bag System Components" and observe each instruction. Failure to follow them could cause a damage to the air bag (inflator) module or result in personal injury.Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery terminal.
2. Disable air bag system. Refer to "Disabling Air Bag System".
3. Remove mounting bolt hole caps (2 pieces) (if equipped).
4. Loosen driver air bag (inflator) module mounting bolts (1) till it turns freely, pull them out and fix them to bolt clamps.
5. Remove air bag (inflator) module from steering wheel (4).
6. Remove driver air bag (inflator) module (yellow) connector (1) and horn connector (2) from steering wheel (4).
7. Disconnect driver air bag (inflator) module (yellow) connector (1) of driver air bag (inflator) module (3) and horn connector (2) as shown in the figure.
a. Release locking of lever.
b. After unlocked, disconnect connector.
WARNING: Special care is necessary when handling and storing a live (undeployed) air bag (inflator) module. Observe "Precautions on Handling and Storage of Air Bag System Components".Otherwise, personal injury may result.
Installation
1. Connect horn connector (2) securely.
2. Connect yellow connector (1) of driver air bag (inflator) module (3) as shown in the figure securely.
a. Connect connector.
b. Lock connector with lock lever.
3. Install horn connector (2) and driver air bag (inflator) module connector (1).
4. Install driver air bag (inflator) module (3) to steering wheel (4), taking care so that no part of wire harness is caught between them.
5. Make sure that clearance between module (3) and steering wheel (4) is uniform all the way.
6. Tighten driver air bag (inflator) module mounting bolt (left side) (5) to specified torque first and then driver air bag (inflator) module mounting bolt (right side) (6) to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Driver air bag (inflator) module mounting bolt (a): 9 N.m (0.9 kg-m, 6.5 lb-ft)
7. Install mounting bolt hole caps (2 pieces) (if equipped).
8. Connect negative battery cable.
9. Enable air bag system. Refer to "Enabling Air Bag System".
