Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Use floor jack to support axle housing. Disconnect parking brake cables from lower control arm. Remove nut and bolt holding shock absorber to rear axle housing. See Figure .
  2. Remove wheel speed sensor clamps, E-ring and disconnect breather hose. On 2.5L models, remove wheel speed sensor clamps from upper rod and axle housing, if equipped with ABS. For right side, remove E-ring for fixing brake pipe from cross member and disconnect breather hose from axle housing.
  3. On 2.7L models, remove wheel speed sensor clamps (1) from vehicle and axle housing (2), if equipped with ABS. For right side, remove E-ring for fixing brake pipe from cross member and disconnect breather hose from axle housing.
  4. On all models, slowly lower axle housing. DO NOT stretch brake line or parking brake cable. Remove coil spring. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure bottom end of coil spring is against stepped edge of axle spring seat. Tighten all bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
