Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
NOTE:
For better performance and results of this diagnostic procedure, usage of appropriate wiring diagram is recommended. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE
in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
NOTE:
Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use an ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect SUZUKI scan tool or equivalent to a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC), located below left side of instrument panel. See Figure . Start engine. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTC is retrieved, perform engine system check. See A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK . After repair, retest system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ECM 35-pin harness connector E61, located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. If MIL remain OFF, substitute ECM (PCM) with a known good unit and retest system for normal operation. If MIL comes ON, repair short to ground in Purple/Yellow wire between ECM (PCM) and instrument cluster. After repair, retest system for normal operation.
