DTC Confirmation Test (P0496)

  1. With ignition switch OFF, connect scan tool. Turn ignition switch ON and clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature. Increase vehicle speed to 25 MPH (40KM/H) or more. Keep vehicle speed for 15 min. (Throttle valve operating is kept constant.)
  3. Stop vehicle and check whether evaporative system monitoring test has completed by using scan tool. If test has not completed, check vehicle conditions (environmental) and repeat steps  2 and  3 . If evaporative system monitoring test has completed, check DTC and pending DTC.
