Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- Check for DTCs P0101, P0102, P0103, P0111, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134, P0450, P0451, P0461, P0463, P1408, P1410, P1450 and P1451. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTCs are not set, go to next step. If any DTC is set, go to that test first.
- Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC P0442 or P0455 is set, go to next step. If DTCs P0442 and P0455 are not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See INTERMITTENTS TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Ensure fuel filler cap is tightened securely and gasket is in good condition. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If fuel filler cap and gasket are okay, go to next step.
- Check evaporative canister purge valve and circuit operation. See EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If evaporative canister purge valve and circuit are okay, go to next step.
- Check evaporative canister air valve and circuit operation. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If evaporative canister air valve and circuit are okay, go to next step.
- Check evaporative canister for damage or clogged passages. See EVAP CANISTER in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If evaporative canister and passages are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect purge line, evaporative system components and fuel tank for leaks. See EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no leaks are found, go to next step.
- Check FTP sensor and circuit operation. See ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If FTP sensor and circuit operation are okay, replace ECM (PCM) and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
