Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Check for DTCs P0111, P0112, P0113, P0335, P0461, P0463, P1450 and P1451. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTCs are not set, go to next step. If any DTC is set, go to that test first.
  2. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If DTC P0137/P0138 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0137/P0138 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See INTERMITTENTS TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Check fuel gauge. If fuel gauge indicates "E", add fuel and recheck. If fuel gauge does not indicate "E", go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Start engine and observe HO2S Bank 1, Sensor 2 parameter on scan tool while revving engine several times. If reading does not vary between 0-0.25 volt and 0.35-2 volts, go to next step. If reading varies between 0-0.25 volt and 0.35-2 volts, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See INTERMITTENTS TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If intermittent problem is not found, replace ECM (PCM) and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
  5. Check for short or open in Black wire between HO2S Bank 1, Sensor 2 and ECM (PCM) 26-pin connector C51-3 terminal No. 14. Also check for short or open in Gray/Yellow wire between HO2S Bank 1, Sensor 2 and ECM (PCM) 26-pin connector C51-3 terminal No. 20. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If wires are okay, go to next step.
  6. Check fuel injector circuit operation. See B-1: FUEL INJECTOR CIRCUIT INSPECTION in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If fuel injector circuit is okay, go to next step.
  7. Check fuel injector resistance on cylinders No. 1, 3 and 5. See INJECTOR RESISTANCE in SERVICE & ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS article. Replace injector(s) as necessary. If fuel injector resistance is okay, go to next step.
  8. Perform fuel pressure test. See FUEL SYSTEM in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If fuel pressure is okay, replace HO2S Bank 1, Sensor 2 and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If DTC P0137/P0138 is set, replace ECM (PCM) and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
