Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- Check for DTCs P0101, P0102, P0103, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117 , P0118 and P0125. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTCs are not set, go to next step. If any DTC is set, go to that test first.
- Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. If DTC P0111 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0111 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See INTERMITTENTS
in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Remove IAT sensor and immerse it in a container of water. Water should be 32-122°F (0-50°C). Ensure IAT sensor connector is connected. Turn ignition on and check IAT sensor value using scan tool. If IAT sensor value is not that of the water, go to next step. If IAT sensor value is that of the water, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See INTERMITTENTS
in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If intermittent problem is not found, replace ECM (PCM) and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between IAT sensor terminals while immersed in a container of water. Heat water slowly and ensure resistance changes as specified. See Fig 1
. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace IAT sensor and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
.
- Ensure IAT sensor is disconnected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and IAT sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire). If 4.5-5.5 volts exist, go to next step. If 4.5-5.5 volts do not exist, check for short or open in Light Blue wire between IAT sensor and ECM (PCM) 26-pin connector C51-3 terminal No. 8. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE
in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If wire is okay, replace ECM (PCM) and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
.
- Check for short or open in Gray/Yellow wire between IAT sensor and ECM (PCM) 26-pin connector C51-3 terminal No. 21. Repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE
in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If wire is okay, replace ECM (PCM) and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
.
