Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, see and perform A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS and go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to DLC with ignition switch OFF. Turn ignition switch ON. Check intake manifold pressure. If it is 78.8 kPa or more, or 63.5 kPa or less, go to next step. If not, trouble is intermittent. If OK, substitute a know good ECM (PCM) and recheck.
  3. Disconnect MAP sensor coupler with ignition switch OFF. Check for proper connection of MAP sensor at Green/Red and Red/White wire terminal. If OK, then with ignition switch ON, check voltage between each of Red/White or Green/Red wire terminals and engine ground. If voltage is about 4-6 volts at each terminal, go to next step. If not, check for the following:
    • Red/White wire open or shorted to power circuit
    • Green/Red wire open or shorted to ground
    • Poor connection at terminal C51-3 No. 3 or C51-3 No. 11
If wire and connection are OK, confirm that MAP sensor is normal and then substitute known-good ECM (PCM) and recheck.
  4. Check MAP sensor. If in good condition, check for the following:
    • Red/White wire shorted to Grey/Red wire
    • Grey/Yellow wire open
    • Poor connection at terminal C51-3 No. 20.
If wire and connection are OK, substitute a known-good ECM (PCM) and recheck. If MAP sensor is not in good condition, replace.
