Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Turn ignition on. If other instrument cluster indicators and warning lights illuminate, go to next step. If other instrument cluster indicators and warning lights do not illuminate, check following:
    • Check IG fuse (20-amp).
    • Check Main fuse (80-amp).
    • Check for open or short in Black/White wire between IG fuse and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections in fuse box, junction block and instrument cluster harness connectors.
If problem is found repair as necessary. After repair retest system.
  2. Start engine. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, check ECM ground and power supply. See A3: ENGINE CONTROL MODULE POWER & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connectors. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged ECM harness connector terminals. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If no problem is found, leave harness connectors disconnected and go to next step.
  4. Using a fuse jumper wire, ground ECM harness connector E92 terminal No. 4 (Violet wire). See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on. If MIL illuminates, substitute a known good ECM, and retest. If MIL does not illuminate, check for open or short in Violet wire between instrument cluster harness connector G18 terminal No. 8 and ECM harness connector E92 terminal No. 4. See Fig 2 . Check for burnt out MIL bulb. If problem is found, repair as necessary.
