Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections in all harness connectors between fuel gauge, fuel level sensor and ECM. Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel level sensor 4-pin in-line harness connector L36/R01. In-line harness connector L36/R01 is located on right rear strut tower, under trim panel. See Figure . Using an ohmmeter, check for specified resistance between fuel level sensor harness connector L36/R01 terminals No. 4 (Pink/Blue wire) and No. 2 (Black wire), fuel level sensor side of in-line harness connector. See FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. See Figure . If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel level sensor. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
    FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RESISTANCE

    Fuel Level Ohms
    Empty 120
    Half 32.5
    Full 10 Or Less
  4. Substitute a known good ECM, and retest system. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
