DTC Confirmation Test

  1. Ensure intake air temperature is 6.8°F (-14°C) or more, vehicle is at an altitude of 8000 feet or below, and barometric pressure is 75 kPa or more. Turn ignition off, connect scan tool and turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Drive vehicle at speeds of 50-60 MPH (engine speed at 2500-3000 RPM) or more for 10 minutes with throttle constant. Stop vehicle. Go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, check for current or pending DTC P0420. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC is not set, using scan tool check completion status of catalyst monitoring test in READINESS TESTS mode. If testing has not been completed, drive vehicle at speeds of 50-60 MPH (engine speed at 2500-3000 RPM) or more for 10 minutes or more with throttle constant. Stop vehicle. Using scan tool, check for current or pending DTC P0420. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC resets, go to DIAGNOSIS & REPAIR PROCEDURE  .
