Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK
under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 26-pin harness connector C99. Check for poor terminal contact at ECM harness connector C99. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between ECM harness connector C99 terminal No. 9 (White wire) and No. 19 (Black wire). See Figure
. Resistance should be 484-656 ohms at 68°F (20°C). Also, measure resistance between ground and ECM harness connector C99 terminal No. 9 (White wire) and No. 19 (Black wire), individually. One megohm of resistance or greater should be present. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, go to step 6
.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect CKP sensor 3-pin harness connector. CKP sensor is located at lower left rear of engine, near bell housing. Measure resistance between CKP sensor pigtail connector terminals No. 2 (Black wire) and No. 3 (White wire). See Fig 1
. Resistance should be 484-656 ohms at 68°F (20°C). Also, measure resistance between ground and CKP sensor pigtail connector terminals No. 2 (Black wire) and No. 3 (White wire), individually. One megohm of resistance or greater should be present. If resistances are as specified, go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, replace CKP sensor. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
.
- Check for and repair open or short in White or Black wire between CKP sensor and ECM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
article. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
.
- Check for damage, foreign material and correct installation of CKP sensor and reluctor wheel. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check for short to each other in White and Black wires, between CKP sensor and ECM. If problem is found repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST
. If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
