Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Check vacuum hoses for proper connection, leakage, plugging, and deterioration. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check EVAP canister purge system operation. See appropriate procedure under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If EVAP canister purge system is not okay, go to next step. If EVAP canister purge system is okay, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition off. Check EVAP-Canister Purge Valve (EVAP-CPV) circuit operation. See EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE under FUEL EVAPORATION in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If EVAP-CPV circuit is okay, go to next step. If EVAP-CPV circuit is not okay, check for plugged vacuum passage. If vacuum passage is okay, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Check EVAP canister air valve circuit operation. See EVAP CANISTER AIR VALVE CIRCUIT under FUEL EVAPORATION in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If EVAP canister air valve circuit is okay, go to next step. If problem is found, replace EVAP canister air valve. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
- Check FTP sensor operation. See DTC P0451: EVAP SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR - RANGE/PERFORMANCE . If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If FTP sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Check for plugged EVAP system hoses connected to fuel tank. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If hoses are okay, problem is probably intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Check EVAP-CPV operation. See EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE under FUEL EVAPORATION in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If problem is found, replace EVAP-CPV. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check for short or open in Red/Black wire between EVAP-CPV harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector C21 terminals No. 2, and through to main relay. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Also check for short or open in Red/Blue wire between EVAP-CPV harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector C21 terminal No. 7. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
