Fan Control System

NOTE: If engine coolant temperature does not rise, check engine cooling system or ECT sensor.
  1. Connect scan tool to DLC with ignition switch OFF. DLC connector is below steering column. Start engine and select DATA LIST mode on scan tool. Warm up engine until coolant temperature is 208°F (97.5°C) or higher. Is radiator cooling fan started when coolant temperature has reached specified temperature? If yes, radiator cooling fan control system is in good condition. If no, go to next step.
  2. Check radiator cooling fan relay and its circuit. Check DTCs and pending DTCs with scan tool. Is DTC P0480 displayed? If no, go to next step. If yes, go to the following;
  3. Check radiator cooling fan relay. Turn ignition switch to OFF and remove radiator cooling fan relay. See Fig 1 . Check for proper connection to relay at terminals No. 1 and 2. If okay, check that there is continuity between No. 1 and 2 when battery is connected to terminals No. 3 and 4. Is check result satisfactory? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace radiator cooling fan relay.
  4. Check radiator cooling fan. Turn ignition switch to OFF. Disconnect cooling fan motor connector. Check for proper connection to motor at Blue/Red and Black wire terminals. If okay, connect battery to motor and check for operation. Is it in good condition? If yes, check for open circuit in White, Blue/Red or Black circuits. If no, replace radiator cooling fan motor. See RADIATOR COOLING FAN MOTOR  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
