Test B: Abs Warning Light Stays On
- Perform DTC check. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If any DTC is displayed, (other than DTC 12 indicated by ABS warning light or NO CODES indicated by scan tool), go to appropriate DTC testing procedure. See ABS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX
table under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If no DTC is displayed, (other than DTC 12 indicated by ABS warning light or NO CODES indicated by scan tool), go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 34-pin electrical harness connector from ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly. Check ABS hydraulic unit/control module 34-pin electrical harness connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire), No. 3 (Black/White wire) and No. 30 (Black/Orange wire) for proper contact and connection. If all connections are okay, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ABS hydraulic unit/control module 34-pin electrical harness connector terminal No. 3 (Black/White wire). See Fig 1
. If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10-14 volts, repair open Black/White wire between ABS hydraulic unit/control module and instrument panel fuse/relay block.
- With ABS hydraulic unit/control module 34-pin electrical harness connector still disconnected, turn ignition on. Using a jumper wire, connect ABS hydraulic unit/control module 34-pin electrical harness connector terminal No. 30 (Black/Orange wire) to ground. See Fig 1
. If ABS warning light turns off, go to next step. If ABS warning light does not turn off, check for an open Black/Orange wire between ABS hydraulic unit/control module and ABS warning light relay, an open Black/White wire between ABS hydraulic unit/control module and instrument panel fuse/relay block, or a short to ground in Red/Blue wire between ABS warning light relay and instrument cluster (combination meter). If wires and connections are okay, replace ABS warning light relay.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of Black wire between ground and ABS hydraulic unit/control module 34-pin electrical harness connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1
. If continuity is present, substitute and known-good ABS hydraulic unit/control module and repeat test. If continuity is not present, repair open Black wire.
