Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If any DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  2. Start engine. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no DTCs are displayed, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connectors. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Turn ignition on. If MIL comes on, repair short to ground in Purple wire between ECM harness connector E92 terminal No. 4 and instrument cluster 10-pin connector G18 terminal No. 8. See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If MIL turns off, substitute a known good ECM, and retest.
