Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Check EVAP canister vent valve for clogging or deterioration. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
  3. Check EVAP canister vent valve operation. See appropriate procedure under FUEL EVAPORATION in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If problem is found, go to step  7 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  4. Check EVAP canister for damage. See EVAP CANISTER under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If problem is found, replace EVAP canister. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  5. Check FTP sensor operation. See FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If problem is found, replace FTP sensor. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  6. Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
  7. Check for short or open in Yellow/Black wire between EVAP canister vent valve harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector C21 terminals No. 3. See Figure and WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If no problem is found, substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
