B-2: Fuel Pump Circuit Inspection: Aerio

  1. Turn ignition on. If fuel pump is heard for 2 seconds, circuit is in good condition. If fuel pump is not heard, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect fuel pump relay from relay/fuse box with ignition switch turned OFF. See Fig 1. Check proper connection to fuel pump relay at each terminal. If it is OK, turn ignition switch ON, measure voltage between engine ground and each BLK/RED wire terminal. If voltage is between 10-14 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, check ECM power and ground circuit. If ECM is in good condition, BLK/RED wire is open or shorted to ground circuit.
  3. Working with relay, measure resistance between main relay terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 2. No continuity should exist. Measure resistance between main relay terminals No. 3 and 4. Resistance should be 70-110 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel pump relay.
  4. Disconnect connectors between floor harness and instrument harness with ignition switch OFF. Connect fuel pump relay to relay/fuse box. Check proper connection to GRY/BLU wire terminal at engine harness coupler and BRN/YEL wire terminal at instrument harness coupler. If OK, connect voltmeter between G04-12 terminal and vehicle body ground. Measure voltage 3 seconds after ignition switch is turned ON. Voltage should be 10-14 volts. If voltage is within specification, go to next step. If out of specification, BRN/YEL or GRY/BLU wire is open or shorted to ground.
  5. Measure voltage between G04-12 and vehicle body ground within 3 seconds of turning ignition switch on. Voltage should be 0-1 volts. If within specification, go to next step. If out of specification, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
  6. Turn ignition switch OFF. Connect connectors between floor harness and instrument harness. Detach fuel tank and disconnect connector from fuel pump. Measure resistance between PNK wire terminal and vehicle body ground. Resistance should be infinite. If within specification, go to next step. If out of specification, PNK wire is shorted to ground.
  7. Ignition switch should be OFF. Connect service wire between G04-12 terminal and vehicle body ground. Turn ignition switch ON and measure voltage between PNK terminal at fuel pump connector and vehicle body ground. Voltage should be 10-14 volts. If within specification, go to next step. If out of specification, PNK wire is open.
  8. Turn ignition switch OFF. Check for continuity between BLK terminal at fuel pump connector and vehicle body ground. If there is continuity, the fuel pump is faulty. If there is no continuity, BLK wire is open.
