Interior Light & Ignition Switch Circuit

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect Power Door Lock and Remote Keyless Entry (PDL/RKE) controller harness connector. See Figure . Connect negative battery cable.
  2. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, measure voltage at PDL/RKE controller connector terminal No. 12 (Brown/White wire on Vitara; Black/Red wire on all others). See Figure . Reading should indicate 10-14 volts at all times. If less than 10 volts, repair open, short or high resistance in Brown/White wire (Vitara) or Black/Red wire (all others). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If reading is 10-14 volts, go to next step.
  3. Using DVOM connected to chassis ground, check for voltage at PDL/RKE controller connector terminal No. 4 (Black/White wire). See Figure . With ignition switch in OFF position, reading should be about zero volts. With ignition switch in ON position, reading should be 10-14 volts. If readings are okay, interior light and ignition switch circuit check is complete. If readings are not as described, repair power supply between PDL/RKE controller connector No. 4 (Black/White wire) and junction/fuse block IG/METER (20-amp) fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
