Steering Knuckle: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel(s). On 2WD models, remove hub center cover. On 4WD models, remove axle shaft drive flange. See Figure . Remove axle shaft snap ring. On all models, disconnect brake line from strut. See Figure . Remove caliper from steering knuckle, and wire aside. See Figure . Remove brake disc. If disc cannot be removed by hand, install two 8-mm bolts into threaded holes of disc. Alternately tighten bolts to remove rotor from hub.
  2. Remove tie rod end from steering knuckle using Tie Rod Remover (09913-65210). See Figure . Remove hub. See WHEEL BEARING & HUB  . Remove backing plate. Support lower control arm using jack. Remove strut-to-steering knuckle bolts.
  3. Disconnect ball joint from steering knuckle. See Figure . Remove steering knuckle from vehicle. Disassemble steering knuckle as needed. See Fig 1 .
