Oil Pump And Torque Converter Housing: Installation

1. Lubricate a NEW "O" Ring with ATF. Install the NEW "O" Ring to the overdrive case. Install the torque converter housing to the transmission case. See Fig 1 .
2. Install the converter housing bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
3. Apply Transjel(R) Transmission Assembly Lubricant to the thrust front race. See Fig 2 . Install the thrust front race to the overdrive clutch drum. Apply Transjel to the thrust bearing and race. Install the thrust bearing and race to the oil pump.
4. Lubricate outer oil pump "O" Ring with ATF. Install the oil pump to the transmission case. Apply sealant to the oil pump bolts. See Fig 3 .
5. Install the oil pump bolts, aligning the holes in the oil pump with those in the transmission case. Tighten oil pump bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
6. Apply low air pressure to each oil circuit hole in order to inspect the operation of each of the following internal components. See Fig 4 :
   1. The overdrive clutch.
   2. The overdrive brake.
   3. The forward clutch.
   4. The direct clutch.
   5. The B1 (second coast) brake.
   6. The B2 (second) brake.
   7. The reverse brake.
7. Measure the output shaft end play using Dial Indicator Set and Magnetic Base. See Fig 5 . Output shaft end play should be to specification. See TRANSMISSION SPECIFICATIONS  .
