Forward And Direct Clutch Assembly: Installation

NOTE: For special tool part numbers, refer to special tools list. See SPECIAL TOOLS  .

1. Install the direct clutch to the transmission case. Apply Transjel(R) Transmission Assembly Lubricant to the thrust bearing and races.
2. Install the following components to the forward clutch:
   • The rear planetary ring gear thrust bearing race. See Fig 1 .
   • The thrust bearing.
   • The forward clutch No. 1 race.
3. Carefully install the forward clutch to the transmission case in order to prevent dropping the thrust bearing and races. See Fig 2 .
4. Measure the height difference between the forward clutch input shaft and the transmission case using vernier calipers. See Fig 3 . See TRANSMISSION SPECIFICATIONS  .
5. Remove and reinstall if less than the specification. Apply Transjel to the forward thrust bearing and race. Install the forward thrust bearing and race to the front of the forward clutch. See Fig 4 .
