Overdrive - Case Side: Reassembly
NOTE:
Clutch discs should be soaked in ATF for 15 minutes prior to installation. Lubricate all parts with ATF. Coat thrust bearings and races with Transjel(R) Transmission Assembly Lubricant or petroleum jelly.

- Refer to graphic for exploded view of Overdrive (OD) brake components. See Fig 1 . Install the bearing and race to the rear of the overdrive case. Install NEW seal rings to the rear of the overdrive case.
- Install the brake piston. Install the following components into the overdrive case:
- The 20 piston return springs.
- The piston spring retainer.
- The snap ring. See Fig 2 . Inspect that the snap ring end gap does not align with one of the overdrive case cutouts.
- Install the following components in the exact order given to the overdrive case after applying Transjel:
- The bearing race.
- The thrust bearing.
- The thrust bearing race.
- Install the planetary ring gear. Install the cushion brake plate. See Fig 3
. Install the overdrive clutch plates and discs in the following order:
- The plate.
- The plate.
- The disc.
- The plate.
- The disc.
- Install the brake plate. Install the brake plate snap ring, making sure the end gap does not align with any of the overdrive case cutouts.
- Measure the brake backing plate-to-snap ring clearance using a feeler gage. Brake backing plate-to-snap ring clearance should be to specification. See TRANSMISSION SPECIFICATIONS . Disassemble and inspect if the clearance is not within specifications.
