Oil Pump: Reassembly

NOTE: For special tool part numbers, refer to special tools list. See SPECIAL TOOLS  .
  1. Install a NEW input shaft oil seal into the oil pump body using the Pump Seal Installer, and a hammer. Apply Transjel(R) Transmission Assembly Lubricant to the seal lip. Install the oil pump cover on the oil pump body.
  2. Install the cover bolts. Tighten oil pump cover bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Apply Transjel to the oil pump thrust washer and bearing. Install the oil pump thrust washer and bearing onto the rear of the cover. Install 2 NEW seal rings onto the cover. Install a NEW oil pump seal onto the fluid pump body.
  4. Inspect the drive gear as follows for smooth rotation:
    1. Insert 2 small drift punches into the oil pump body while turning the drive gear. See Fig 1 .
    2. If the rotation is not smooth, disassemble the pump.
    Install a hose clamp in order to ensure correct alignment. See Fig 2 .
