Inspecting & Changing Fluid
CAUTION:
On Grand Vitara and Vitara with Type "1" transmission, DO NOT remove reverse idler gear bolt (hex head bolt, (1) near right rear of main transmission case. See Fig 1
.
NOTE:
Apply RTV sealant to threads of drain and filler plugs before installation.
- Before changing or inspecting oil, be sure to stop engine and lift vehicle horizontally.
- With vehicle lifted up, check oil level and leakage. If leakage exists, correct it.
- Drain old oil and fill with new oil. See Fig 1 .
- Tighten drain and level/filler plugs, see TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Apply sealant to thread of drain plug before installation.
